Preferred Season for Home Moving

Home moving is a difficult process regardless of the external variables. In addition to this different seasons and conditions can have a significant impact on the home moving process. There is no such definition as the “best” season to move, however you can consider some pros and cons associated with each of the four seasons listed below:

Summer

Pros: It can be easier to find a home in the summer compared to the rest of the seasons. The housing market in the summer typically is at its peak, therefore you may find more choices to rent or buy a property.

Cons: Due to the climate change  some summer days are becoming really hot in Scotland. Heat makes a move difficult enough without having to sweat thorough sunny days whilst you hauling boxes in and out of the vans. Therefore, be aware of heat and check out the forecast whilst deciding on the day to move.

Autumn

Pros: Unlike in the summer the property market is slowing down however the main positivity of moving during the autumn is its simplicity. Things are less competitive during the autumn months and you can secure moving services at a good price, just a little more affordable. Also, your move will be accompanied by a cooler weather, which makes the whole process just a bit easier.

Cons: Along with the cooler weather, unfortunately comes a lot of rain. A seasonal weather overview in Scotland reveals some of the highest average rainfall during the autumn months with notably high spikes in October and November. You also have to be aware of the potential snow falls in October and November. In 2019, residents in parts of Scotland endured heavy snow with many roads impassable!

Winter

Pros: Same as in the Autumn, you can benefit from home moving in the winter months due to lower cost and better availability from the movers.

Cons: The weather in the winter can have a significant impact on your move. The weather conditions in Scotland have been unpredictable during the winter months in the past few years.

Spring

Spring is not as busy as summer, still this is the preferred season for home moving for many people.

Pros: Spring months offer the most appealing weather with the housing market starting to get ready for the busy moving season. You will benefit from the comfortable and affordable move when everyone else is just joining the start of the moving season frenzy.

Cons: Be aware of the “spring showers” which can affect your move leaving your personal goods and belongings showered in the rain whilst you moving things. Check out the weather forecast before you decide on your day to move.

Whilst any season can affect your house moving process, be mindful of the school holidays if you have kids. Moving in between school terms is often best for all involved.

We hope these tips have helped you to outline some of the potential factors which can help or affect your house move.
